Symptoms
When trying to launch Prospector you may get the error “field event iid cannot be a zero length string” or you may get a message “the system is not up to date” and clicking ok to that and it starts the Prospector Registration Wizard. This error occurs when the config.ini file is corrupted.

Resolution
Solution 1

1. Click on Start → All Programs → Trigold(Crystal) → Prospector → (Tools) → Maintenance

2. This will open the maintenance tool. Right click on the Prospector data location and click on copy. Then Click on Start → Run, and then right click and paste into the text field and click Ok (Vista users paste into the Search field at the bottom of the Start menu). This will open the Prospector folder

3. Open the “BackupINIFiles” folder. (If you do not have “BackupINIFiles” folder please refer to solution 2)

4. Click on “View” (at the top) and click on details.

Right click the config.ini and click on rename (choose the config that has the latest date in the date modified column). Delete all the numbers and last full stop and press enter. If named correctly the config.ini icon will change to

5. Right click the config.ini file and click on copy. Then click on back at the top of the explorer window, then right click and paste into the current folder, and click yes to replace.

Prospector should now launch successfully.

Solution 2

We will need to replace the existing config.ini file and reregister Prospector.

1. Click on this link http://updates.trigold.co.uk/support/client/config.exe

2. Click on run and run again when you get the message “the publisher could not be verified are you sure you want to run this software?”

3. The ZipGenius window will appear.

We need to extract to the Prospector Data Location which can vary. To get the correct location please do the following.

Click on Start → All Programs → Trigold(Crystal) → Prospector →Tools Maintenance, This will open the maintenance tool. Right click on the Prospector data location and click on copy.

Go back to the ZipGenius window and delete the text under “Extract to” and then right click and paste into the field. And then click on the start button, and confirm the extract successful message.

4. Now Click Start → All Programs → Trigold(Crystal) → Prospector →Tools → Register Company.

5. Click continue in the Prospector Registration Wizard and complete the registration (if you do not have your account details contact Registrations on 08714 23 24 24 option 3).

Please note if you find that your clients are missing in Prospector. Then your Prospector is setup to read client data from a network or from somewhere other than the default location, you will need to repoint Prospector to look into the correct location for the client data. Please follow instructions below to do this.

1. Open Prospector and press ‘F7’ or click User Settings in the bottom left.

2. Click on Network and then click on Browse, you will need to browse to the correct location of the userdata.dat file (If you do not know the location please speak to your IT Administrator)
